Hot Topic #89:

For a lot of us, riding that big yellow bus to the local public school was a big part of being a kid in America.

Last week, efforts began to dismantle the Department of Education, starting by laying off nearly half of the department's staff. These cuts will impact parents, students, and teachers in the public school system.
Did you go to public school?

More than 26 million students across the country rely on funding from the Department of Education. That funding keeps schools open, makes afterschool programs available, supports children with disabilities and special needs, and makes sure students experiencing homelessness don't fall through the cracks.
What does public school mean to you?
It's almost tax season. Our tax dollars go towards funding lots of programs. Sometimes we pay taxes for programs that don't directly help us, but they help others in our community.

How do you feel about your tax dollars helping others in the community?
