Hot Topic #133:

Today is a federal holiday commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. Dr. King was an activist and leader in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal law, state law, and throughout American culture. In addition to fighting for the rights of Black people, Dr. King also fought for anyone living in poverty.
What do you feel inspired to fight for?
  • Ending homelessness: Every family should have a roof over their head that they can afford.
  • Support for immigrant families: Children should not be separated from their parents. Paperwork shouldn't turn people's lives upside down.
  • Affordable healthcare: No one should go bankrupt from getting sick or being disabled.
  • Support for moms: Affordable reproductive care, good maternity leave, and free childcare.
One of Dr. King's most famous speeches is "I Have a Dream" (you can listen to it or read it here). He shares his dreams of a better America.
When you dream of a better America, what do you see?

Thank you for sharing.
