Most of us are getting ready to file our taxes before April 15th.

In other countries, the government sends you a bill, and you pay it. But here, we have to figure out how much we owe on our own. 

This is because of how our tax system is designed, including years of lobbying from large tax prep companies to limit government-run free filing options.
How do you file your taxes?
Our taxes go to all sorts of things: from potholes to foreign wars. 

If you could decide what programs your taxes went to, which would be your FIRST choice?
  • Paying public school teachers so we have a good education
  • Paying public Pre-K teachers so we have affordable childcare
  • Regulation agencies so we can have clean air, food, and water
  • Better housing laws and programs so housing could be more affordable for everyone
  • Better training for social workers and police to get homeless people off the street
  • More support for seniors (housing, health care, social security)
  • Infrastructure like roads, bridges, and public transportation
